Donating a car, truck or other vehicle to Habitat’s Cars for
Homes program generates funding to help future homeowners build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter in the United States and around the world. In FY 2024, Habitat for Humanity set new records with 17,307 cars donated, $20.9 million in revenue, and 737 affiliates receiving $13.6 million in unrestricted funding.

What types of vehicles are accepted?
Habitat accepts most intact cars, trucks, motorcycles,
airplanes, construction vehicles, recreational vehicles,
and boats on trailers. All vehicles must have titles
executed in conformance with the applicable state law.

What if the vehicle is not running?
The vehicle need not be in running condition, but it must
be intact and have four inflated tires so it can be towed.

How long does it take to pick up a donated vehicle?
All vehicle donations are processed as quickly as
possible after an appropriately executed title is
received at HFHI’s processing center. A donated vehicle
is typically picked up within two or three days. Online
donations speed up the process, and arrangements
can be made more quickly if a vehicle qualifies for an
expedited pickup.

What documents do I need in order to donate my car?
The online Car Donation Wizard, cardonationwizard.com,
will tell you what documents are required in your state.
Most states require that you have a clear title to the
vehicle; in the event that documentation is required
to clear the title or if there are other special
circumstances, the HFHI processing center will assist you.

What are the tax benefits of donating my car?
Habitat for Humanity is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
If you itemize deductions on your income tax return, you
may be entitled to deduct the gross sales value of your
donated vehicle. Donors will receive appropriate receipts
within 30 days of the sale of their car. Please consult your
tax adviser or the IRS to determine benefits.
