Veteran Build

Habitat for Humanity of Monroe teamed up with Home Depot on October 14th, to build a Veteran’s widow a ramp leading to her front door. The project took several days, and multiple volunteer groups, such as Monroe County Young Professionals, also generously donated their time in addition to Home Depot to help with the construction. Habitat is so grateful for the support of the Monroe County community! We could not build without you!

Habitat Monroe’s Project Serve program allows us to assist Veterans and Military families in the Monroe community, through home building, home repairs, and ramp assistance. Habitat is proud to have partnered with Home Depot, as well as Little Blessings Veteran Community Outreach (LBVCO). LBVCO is an equine-therapy based nonprofit aiming to bring a sense of peace and normalcy to Veterans and their families, as well as to prevent Veteran suicide.

“Our Veteran Ramp Program is in place so Veterans and families of Veterans, like Jill, can benefit from the resources we offer. This program is one small way we can show our gratitude to those who have given so selflessly to our great nation. We are grateful to have this opportunity to make a difference in our community.”

Molly Moore, Habitat Monroe’s Director of Family Services

The ramp was built on Tanner Landing, in Monroe, MI. The homeowner, Jill, is thrilled about Habitat Monroe’s latest Project Serve build, and says her experience with Habitat Monroe and Home Depot has been life changing. We at Habitat are so happy we were able to help.

“I always had to look out the window, because I couldn’t go out and sit in my yard. [The old ramp was] too uneven, and I would fall.”
