All raffle ticket sale proceeds go directly to Habitat for Humanity, to help build safe, affordable, energy efficient homes for Monroe County families. We are also able to serve Veterans by assisting them with home repairs and ramps, thanks to Home Depot!
Fundraising
We aim to improve the world, and believe everyone deserves safe, affordable, energy efficient housing. We support our cause mainly through fundraising, as well as the occasional grant, alongside donations. You may be wondering.. How much money does a Habitat home cost to build? How do we pay for the homes?
The homes we build can cost Habitat upwards of $50,000 to build. We pay for this through various methods of fundraising; from raffles, to golf outings, parties, auctions, and other events. When you purchase raffle tickets during one of our events, you can be sure your money is going to a great cause; building homes for those in need in Monroe County. Plus, you have the chance to win something great!!
Volunteering
Volunteers are the foundation of Habitat for Humanity. Over 80% of our workforce comes from volunteers, and we certainly could not build these homes without the help! So far, volunteers have spent an impressive 1,300 hours helping build our Lawndale Habitat home. We are SO grateful for every individual who spends their time helping us fulfill our mission. Thank you all for putting your heart and soul into these homes!
Habitat Homeownership Benefits
Habitat homeowners only have to save up a down payment of $1,000, which is much lower than a typical home-buyer. The homes also boast very low utility bills, because of the highly energy-efficient design, and the way they are built. Most of the time, a Habitat homeowner’s utility bills fall below $50 per month.
Habitat homeowners are required to complete 200 sweat equity hours, half of which must be on the home build site. They are able to help build their own home, all while learning valuable skills, like the basics of home maintenance.
Some of the possible home features Habitat homeowners enjoy are; new energy star appliances, including a stove, dishwasher, refrigerator, washer and dryer, an alarm system, air conditioning, a garage and/or shed. Our typical Habitat home has three bedrooms and one bathroom, and is a ranch between 900-1300 square feet. Handicap accessible homes can also be built, which include wide doorways, hallways, bathroom, and ramp.

Home Depot’s Help
Home Depot is one of Habitat Monroe’s greatest supporters. We are so grateful they are part of our team. Volunteer groups from their stores in our community come out several times a month to help build homes. In addition, the company donates to Habitat quite often: gift cards to be used for home building materials, raffle items, and supplies.
Home Depot is also one of our main partners in Habitat’s Project Serve. Without the help of Home Depot, we would not be able to secure funding to help our local veterans. The wonderful company assists us in purchasing and installing ramps for disabled veterans, as well as fixing veteran homes that are in disrepair. Home Depot helps us serve those who have served our country, and we are so thankful for the opportunity.
