Do Good, Feel Good: Employee Edition

When Elisabeth was looking for a job between school semesters, she was hoping for somewhere that she could
earn some money and assist a good organization. “The Habitat Restore fit the bill perfectly,.” Elisabeth, or Betsy as she is known to her coworkers & customers, is the Habitat Monroe ReStore’s newest team member! She started in July of this year and has quickly become an asset to the store.

“My favorite part about working at the Restore is being a go-between communicator,” she said. “I enjoy working to keep things organized and understandable.” Elisabeth is a student at Monroe County Community College and during her school break, she didn’t just want any job. She wanted the way she spent her time to have purpose. “My favorite memory at the ReStore so far is simply being recognized, and feeling needed and valued,” she said. “The environment in the store is great thanks to the people working and volunteering there.”

The ReStore is a retail store that sells donated home goods at a discounted price, to raise funds for affordable housing in Monroe County. Other than a few regular volunteers, the ReStore operates with three employees. It’s safe to say that Elisabeth’s work serves a purpose. The greater cause that the ReStore serves is something that Elisabeth is glad to be part of. “Habitat has a great impact on the community,” she said. “I have noticed that Habitat is a place that allows the community to help each other. People donate items that, in turn, helps their neighbors. Habitat lets its light shine through service.” Next time you’re at the ReStore, be sure to say ‘hi’ to Elisabeth and thank her for her service!
