As the holiday season approaches, so does the season of giving. This means not only giving to our loved ones but to those who need it the most. As we’re reminded of all the blessings in our lives, let us think about those who are not as blessed.
Any donations made to Habitat Monroe will always go back into providing the community with affordable housing. There are still parents who will have to choose between Christmas gifts for their children and paying their rent or utility bills this month. There are still children who might not be waking up in their own bed or in a safe neighborhood on Christmas morning. There is still work to be done for individuals, children, and families all around the county.
There are many ways that you can support Habitat Monroe and help us continue towards our vision where everyone has safe, adequate, and affordable shelter. As of November 2018, we’re continuing to work on our 101st house in the county. That’s 149 adults and 226 children who now have a safe and affordable house to call their own. We could not have hit these milestones without the overwhelming support from this county that we have received so far.
If you’re a new supporter looking to help out, or maybe a returning one that’s looking for a new way to help, there are many different and simple ways to support Habitat Monroe in this season of giving.
First, we can always accept donations online, by mail, or in person at our office. Our safe and secure website, habitatmonroemi.org makes it super easy to donate any amount you desire. Checks can also be made out to Habitat for Humanity and mailed to or dropped off at 14930 LaPlaisance Rd., Monroe, MI 48161.
Second, donating can be just as easy as holiday shopping by using smile.amazon.com. It’s the same great Amazon that you use all of the time but will donate a portion of your order to a non-profit of your choice. You must set up your own account at the smile.amazon.com website first and then select Habitat for Humanity Monroe County as your organization. Make sure that you choose the Monroe, MI Habitat and then you’re all set to fill up your cart with goodies for a good a cause.

Another way to shop for the cause is by signing up for Kroger Community Rewards. That’s right, as your stocking up on everything you need for a perfect holiday meal, you can also donate to Habitat. When you visit krogercommunityrewards.com, you can create an account register your Kroger Plus card. You can then add community rewards to the card and select Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County as your organization. Every time you shop and swipe your plus card, a portion of your total will be donated.

Even kids can get in on the spirit of giving! Hold a fundraiser at your school or among your friends, make holiday cards and crafts to sell, hold a bake sale, or simply encourage your parents and relatives to make a donation to Habitat in your name. The possibilities are endless when it comes to creatively giving and everyone can participate.
