Tax season can be a stressful time for anyone, but Habitat HOPE, in partnership with MSU Extension and the VITA program, is here to help ease your concerns. Did you know that you can get your income taxes prepared for free in Monroe County by an IRS certified volunteer?
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax help to people who generally make $55,000 or less, persons with disabilities and limited English-speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals.
The VITA site in Monroe County is held each year at the Monroe County Community College Career Tech Center at 1555 S. Raisinville Rd. They will be taking tax preparation appointments for the whole tax season. This year, Habitat HOPE will host free financial workshops on March 22, March 29, and April 5 at 12:30 pm at the VITA site.
These free workshops are available to the public whether you are getting taxes prepared by VITA or not. Workshop topics will include budgeting, savings, and goal setting. Tax returns are an opportunity to jump-start your 2019 financial goals and we can provide the tools and information needed to help you get there.
We will also be available to answer questions and schedule appointments for free Habitat HOPE financial coaching.
