Habitat brings HOPE to Monroe County

The Habitat HOPE Program has been working hard to bring its Homebuyer Education Classes into the community, at convenient locations throughout Monroe County.

October’s Homebuyer Education class will be held on the Monroe County Community College campus, at 1555 S. Raisinville Rd in Monroe County, on Oct. 23 and Oct. 30 from 5:30 to 8:30 pm.

Those interested in attending this class can register through the college by either stopping in on the campus or calling (734) 384-4127. The class fee is $25 and can be found in the course catalogue under the title ‘Your Own Home.’

November’s class will be held at the South Rockwood branch library, at 5676 Carleton Rockwood Rd, South Rockwood, MI 48179. Part one will be on Nov. 12 and part two will be Nov. 19, also from 5:30 to 8:30 pm.

Anyone interested in this class can register by calling Jeanette McDonald at 734-243-2048x111. Due to the location of the class being at the library, this class is free to attend.

Class materials for both classes will be provided.

The Homebuyer Education Class provides its students with the tools that they need to improve their financial health and prepare them for homeownership. Jeanette McDonald, Habitat HOPE financial coach is a certified housing counselor with over ten years of experience in the industry.

You will learn the advantages of renting versus owning a home, determine your readiness to buy a home, identify basic terms used in mortgage transactions, understand mortgage options, learn how interest rates affect the amount of house you can buy, and find out how taxes and insurance affect monthly payments.

After successfully completing this course, you will receive your Home Buyer Certification, which is required in some home-buying programs such as MSDHA’s Down-Payment Assistance program.

The Habitat HOPE program is a part of Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County and offers free services to the public, as well as those in the Habitat homeownership program. Services are offered to everyone, whether or not they are interested in purchasing a home through Habitat Monroe.
